It was a frantic start to the 2015 Men’s F-League with five teams within a point of each other following the opening weekend, competition’s newcomers Galaxy FC and Inner West Magic taking the early jump ahead together with a win and draw apiece.
Vipers stole a win in Queensland to join Capital and Boomerangs on three points, and the league’s only just heating up.

Galaxy, Magic draw
F-League newcomers Galaxy FC and Inner West Magic gave an excellent account for themselves in a riveting 2-2 draw to kick off the competition in grand style at Queensland’s Eagles Sports Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Two first-half Jarrod Basger strikes took Inner West to a hard-fought 2-0 lead at the break, but Galaxy were well in the game when Faris Noor Rani and Nestor Fonseca goals brought the home side level again.
Both sides had chances to find a late winner but in the end had to settle for a highly spirited 2-2 draw.
Magic dazzle South Brisbane
Inner West Magic proved too good for South Brisbane in a 4-1 win at Eagles Sports Complex late on Saturday afternoon.
The travellers forged a two-goal advantage at halftime and went on with it in the second term despite Josh Sewell’s goal for the hosts making matters a little more interesting.
Magic’s Jordan Mundell bagged a double and Jarrod Basger and Dean Lockhart added goals to make it a profitable trip north for Inner West’s first F-League foray.
Galaxy FC tackle Vic Vipers
A second-half blitz helped Galaxy FC to a fine 5-3 win against Vic Vipers at Logan Metro Sports Centre on Sunday morning.
It was a gripping affair with scores deadlocked at 2-2 at the changeover, but Galaxy’s Tuan Cao bobbed up for a brace to complement Adam Finocchiaro, James Weidmann and Faris Noor Rani goals and bring home maximum points for the Queenslanders, Jonathan Barrientos, Shayan Alinejad and Adam Cooper scoring for the Victorians.
Vipers strike South Brisbane
Vic Vipers were in dazzling form in a 11-1 demolition of South Brisbane at Logan Metro Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon, avenging their earlier loss to Galaxy in speedy fashion.
It was 5-zip at halftime and a 10-goal margin at the final whistle, Robert Armellini snaring a Vic hat-trick, Adam Cooper, Miguel Barrigos and Alistair Dunlop rattling the cage twice each, and Kui Mu and Matthew Vragovski both scoring in the 11-1 romp, Jarrod Vlaanderen grabbing Brisbane’s consolation goal.
Boomerangs broadside Pirates
A buoyant Boomerangs scuttled Bayside Pirates 6-0 in their maiden voyage at Canberra’s mpowerdome on Sunday morning, firing the Territorians’ first shot across the F-League bow.
The home side had to fight hard for a 2-0 halftime advantage but went on with it in the second term to earn a six-goal whitewash behind Brad Sawyer and Jonathan Ciminelli pairs, Jake Wilsener and Grant Barlow netting the other two Boomerangs scores.
Capital betters Bayside
Capital FC ground out a comfortable 5-1 victory over Bayside Pirates at Canberra’s mpowerdome on Sunday afternoon.
A double from Jason Farrell and Cameron Gordon as well as a sole goal from Brett Forward all but cancelled out Pirates’ Roy Ruea’s goal.

It’s a big weekend of men’s F-League starting with Inner West Magic versus East Coast Heat at Valentine Sports Park on Friday night (8.15pm). At the same NSW venue on Saturday Galaxy FC play Inner West Magic (12pm) and then East Coast Heat (5pm), while at Victoria’s Oakleigh Recreation Centre Capital FC tackle Vipers (3pm) and then Bayside Pirates (6.30pm). On Sunday it’s Dural Warriors against Galaxy FC at Dural Sport & Leisure Centre (12pm), while at YMCA Derrimut Health & Aquatic Centre South Brisbane face Bayside Pirates (12pm) followed by Vic Vipers (3.30pm).
